A Life Shaped by Good Books

Building a Love of Learning Through Reading

Reading together with your child plays a key role in your child’s school success and their desire to become a lifelong learner. Reading “good books” can give your child so many experiences they would not otherwise have had, as well as, help to develop their vocabulary and reading skills. They can travel to far off lands and experience all kinds of adventures without leaving your home! This is also a great opportunity for your child to practice reading aloud to you when a book is the appropriate reading level. Or you can read to your child for some quality family time getting lost in the stories together.

Classical education is language/literature-based learning. Your child will be exposed to a lot of wonderful books while at Agathos, but there are so many books and so little time! Therefore, our Boni Libri reading program asks you to help your child by investing time reading “good books” to or with your child. We require that books for Boni Libri assignments be chosen from this list OR approved in advance of deadlines by the teacher. These selections have been chosen for their excellent quality as well as appropriate reading level.

Each quarter at Agathos, students complete Boni Libri reading requirements for their current grade. Since reading expectations vary by grade, please encourage your student to pay careful attention to the instructions for his or her grade level and complete the appropriate reports that accompany their reading.

We encourage you to look for and read quality literature with and to your child. Review your child’s specific grade for book and author selections that build on reading skills and vocabulary development.

3rd – 8th Graders

3rd through 8th graders are expected to read a book from their respective grade level list, and complete one book report form for the book. Each of these grades have curated book collections gathered on the Follett Library. Boni Libri Report forms are specific to each grade level and downloadable. These templated forms provide appropriate structure for each grade level which means they are not interchangeable.
