Cocoa Bella 2017

Celebrate La Dolce Vita, The Sweet Life!

Agathos Classical School invites you to celebrate La Dolce Vita – “the sweet life” – at Cocoa Bella 2017.  Join several hundred guests from 6-8:30pm on Saturday evening, March 11th at the Memorial building in Columbia to support the school by tasting chocolates and shopping.  This year’s event will provide an atmosphere reminiscent of an outdoor Tuscan café and market. Occurring on the eve of spring, the auction will feature a variety of lawn, garden, and outdoors items.

This year’s Italian inspired menu consists of a mouth-watering array of foods.  Savory offerings will include garlic sautéed shrimp with chocolate sauce, chocolate pepper steakhouse, crostini, caprese salad with chocolate balsamic vinegar, and olive tapenade. Guests will also enjoy sampling a variety of sweet treats such as Ricotta toast, tiramisu, Italian cream cake balls, raspberry truffles, Kahlua truffles, and mini cannoli.  Buckhead Coffeehouse will provide coffee and hot chocolate.

Chef Mark Slagle from Nashville will return this year to guide guests through a sampling of fine Italian-made chocolates and Italian sparkling water. There will also be a truffle table featuring assorted truffles and bon bons from sources both near and far.  The student art show will highlight inspiring creations from every grade level.  A strolling musician mingling among guests will complete the evening’s ambiance.

The lawn, garden, and outdoors auction will have something for everyone ranging from bird houses and wind chimes to plants and planters, lawn tools and equipment.  Some of the most popular items in prior years have been the group artistic creations from each class and unique items like a mosaic birdbath, barn quilt and reclaimed garden bench. Bidding is spirited, often quite entertaining, and a big part of the evening’s fun!

Each Cocoa Bella attracts some guests who augment the theme with their dress, and this year’s event would be a perfect occasion to sport Italian-designed attire or anything of which Sophia Lauren would approve.  Prior year’s themes have included the 1960’s (starring The Wannabeatles), world travel, fairy tales, classic films, and Ancient Rome.

Generous support from the community makes Cocoa Bella possible.  First Tennessee Bank leads as 2017’s title sponsor.  Additional sponsors include Lucas Orthodontic Group, Beck Dental Care, McEwen Group, Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Quinn, Paul Varney Construction, Whatley & Associates, State Farm – Linda Norton, Veterinary Wellness Clinic of Columbia, Dr. Jonathan Pettit, Mid-TN Bone and Joint Clinic, Lumberyard Gardens, and Buckhead Coffeehouse.
